Hi Guys,

My PC specs:
MSI z87 GD65
i5 4690k
MSI GTX 980
SSD Samsung 850EVO
2x 8gb HyperX 1866MHz
Corsair VS 650

I've installed all latest drivers for my GPU, MOBO etc. I've reformatted my rig a week ago, and the only game installed on it is Battlefield 1.
As topic's title says, my pc turns off by itself at the end of each round in Battlefield 1.
My CPU/GPU temperatures during the gameplay - 65 degrees CPU, 70 degrees GPU
CPU usage - 100%, GPU usage - 40%-70%.

I personally think that the issue is caused by my weak Power Supply Unit, because once I have lowered Power Usage for my GPU in MSI Afterburner then everything is stable and there are no issues even at the end of the round in Battlefield. But... I would like to use 100% potential of my GPU.

One more thing, once I run HeavyLoad CPU stress test and FurMark GPU stress test together, then PC shuts down itself. With MSI Afterburner fix, it's stable again.

I will appreciate any help you might bring to my case..

Cheers,

it's really not. BF1 might just be the CPU-power hungriest game to date.

it's most definitely the PSU (also that's why your...
Your PSU is definitely low quality, and could be the cause of the issue. But it's weird your CPU usage is so high and your GPU usage so low, it should be the other way around really.

If you run those stress tests separately, does the system still shutdown?

Your PSU is not meant for OCing or Gaming, but you're trying to use it for both. I would definitely say it's the PSU.

James, thank you for your reply,
If I'm running stress test separately system works fine and it's not causing shutdowns.
Do you think that I might need more W or just better quality PSU with similar power?

it's most definitely the PSU (also that's why your 980 doesn't see full potential, it just doesn't get enough power probably)

I'd get a new one. a decent unit.
I guess the VS is about 3 years old?
because in that case I'd aim for high quality just to be save. could be your power grid stresses your PSU a bit
650W should be fine

I've asked my friend (his pc: i5 4690k, GTX 970) to see if his CPU usage is this high while playing BF1, and it turns out that BF1 is the CPU-power hungriest game to date. He's got 100% CPU usage as well.

I'm about to look for a new PSU, 80 plus gold 650/750W should be fine I think.
I will update this thread once I have my PSU replaced with the new one.

Hi James, thanks for the link to pcpartpicker,

What do you think about this one - be quiet! Straight Power 10 700W CM
I've seen some reviews and my 'IT' friend recommends be quiet! parts.

The straight power 10 is an alrightish unit.
It's stable but not high quality, uses mediocre caps for example.

I'd rather go with a higher quality unit if your VS died so quickly.

BeQuiet usually makes great products but they're in the cooling business. So fans, coolers, cases are all high quality.
For PSUs they contract OEMs.
There Dark Power series (very high quality) is manufactured by Seasonic, they're lesser series like Straight power or pure power are usually made by FSP or HEC who both have a wide portfolio but rarely put out high grade units (especially HEC)

Okay, so I need to look for a unit with 80 plus Platinum certificate or just a different manufacturer and stay with 80 plus gold?

Edit: How about XFX? Google says it's one of the best manufacturer when it comes to Power Supply Units, so I've checked FX Black Edition XTR 750W Modular 120mm 80+ Gold. It's even cheaper than BeQuiet! one mentioned above. What do you think Isokolon?

PSUs are difficult as there's no category that says "this is a good unit". For example there are HEC made gold units who are just way worse than a bronze XFX.

Generally XFX are very durable high grade units made by Seasonic. Except for the XFX XT, all other series (Pro, Core, TS, XTR) are very recommendable

So yes the XFX is a very good quality unit and usually decently priced.

So from what you are saying, XFX Black Edition XTR 750W Modular 120mm 80+ Gold (P1-750B-BEFX) this one should do the work, right?

I'm looking for a cheaper unit but still I would like to have 80+ Gold certified one, with above average quality.

it's a very good unit. superb quality and lifespan.
as for cheaper units with gold certification... you can look around for a XFX TS Gold but it comes without modularity (all cables are fixed inside the PSU and can't be unplugged if not needed)
sometimes a Seasonic G is cheaper as well
Super Flower PSUs are usually high grade as the Golden Green Hx or the Golden King series and sometimes better priced.
sometimes there are special offers for Corsair's RMx or EVGA's Supernova Gs /G2, look around

Isokolon, thank you very very much for all your help, I really appreciate it!
I will look around and update the thread once I've made a decision and installed my new PSU :)

Update: Bought XFX Black Edition XTR 750W Modular 120mm 80+ Gold and installed it.
Now everything works fine, I can play BF1 with 90-120fps on conquest with 64 players on the server.

What's more, I've managed to reach 4.5GHz without changing voltage on my i5 4690K. It works like magic now :)

Isokolon and James, once again, many thanks for your input here, your help is much appreciated,
Let's mark this thread as solved :)
