I restored my laptop to win 8 as it was running slow. I then performed the upgrade to win 10 however this hung. i then went through the delete HD option thinking it would then recover the OS but now it is simply a blank hdd that has nothing to boot from and no system restores under boot menu. How can i get win 8 back?

Well, since the HDD is formatted and there's no way to do anything on it, you'll have to go on another computer and download an iso image of Windows 8. You can find some on the internet.
After that, make sure you have a product key for Windows 8, if you don't, then buy one, they're not that expensive I'd say. You can still use the OS without the product key, it's just that you may get annoying Activate Windows messages and some features won't work and what not.

And also, did your laptop come with any discs? Did it come with a disc to install Windows 8? If it did then use that. But if not then just do what I said at the top
There may have actually been a product key that comes with the PC in documentation or on the laptop somewhere...

Take off the battery at the back of the laptop and see if there's a product key sticker marked in the empty battery area. If there's no signs of any product keys on the laptop or in any documentation and what not, then just download an iso image of Windows 8, boot it up from a USB flash drive or disk and install Windows from there, and don't forget to purchase a product key or if you have one use that

Good luck! If you need any more help, then feel free to ask!
