Hey techies. I can't seem to find a answer to my question through normal research, maybe you can help me out.
I own a Gigabyte ga-z97x-gaming 7 mobo and G Skill DDR3 1866 16gb Dual channel 2x8gb
Question is. I have 4 slots for ram. Slots 1 & 3 are color coded, Slots 2 & 4 are color coded for dual channel capability. 1 stick works in slots 1 & 2, I cannot seem to get 1 stick to work in 3 & 4, this obviously might be a warranty issue (Im looking into a RMA, but would like to be sure before i contact customer support on a ID10T error.) I can use both 8gb sticks in slots 1 & 2 and it boots fine to equal the full 16gb. This is obviously not optimum but Is this safe/ what are the disadvantages to doing this? Is there anyway to enable Dual channel configuration on non color coded slots?
Also, does anyone know what DDR ch (a/b) voltage protection does? I'm wondering if this is effecting or causing my boot to stop and loop when i attempt color coordination?
