If you know that it's not going to fit, then don't try. In whatever direction it's too big for the case, you can't just cut a piece of it off, or make a hole in the case.
The case is supposed to support cards up to 290 mm in depth. The card is 298 mm. Just don't try it.

Get a bigger case or have a look at Gigabyte's 1070 mini version. If your current case has good air flow, will certainly help with the lack of cooling this shorter 1070 version has compared to others.
