My SSD Maxell 500gb has stopeed being recognized, it came back for a couple minutes just to be lost once again, it uses a mini usb to a type a usb cable im thinking that might be the problem but when i plug it in the light on the ssd is green, so I was thinking what to do before buying a new cable just to check?

Also, when it "came back" recognized as only as "D" it asked to be formated, when I clicked on format it said there is a problem and i couldnt get the computer to recognize it ever since.

This sounds pretty unfortunate, @Ryze_W! :(
However, I'm glad that you don't have any important files currently stored on the drive. Otherwise, you would most probably need a professional data recovery company for assistance. If the HDD is not working on multiple computers, you should check its warranty status by contacting the manufacturer's customer support. If it's still covered, you should be able to RMA it and get a replacement from them or the reseller.

Hope this helps you. Best of luck & let me know if you have more questions.

Welcome to the TH Community, @Ryze_W!

It is possible that it could be a USB cable failure or it could be the port on your computer itself, so I'd recommend you try connecting the SSD to multiple computers. Another thing you should is check if the drive is recognized in Device manager or Disk Management in Windows. Posting some screenshots from there would be really helpful. If the SSD has a brand-specific utility, I'd recommend you download it and check if it gets detected through the tool.

As soon as you gain access to your files on the drive, make sure you back them up somewhere else as well. Better safe than sorry, right? This is how you will avoid any potential data loss.

Keep me posted with the troubleshooting.

Allright so I tried with 3 different computers, none of them really detect it but my main computer sees it as external usb 2 but only there in the disk management it doesnt show up. sadly its in my foreign language but i assure you it isnt there, I didnt try if it was a cable problem yet, and also It started clicking sometimes while plugged in, click click click click its periodic but not the same kind of clicking everytime. Strange maybe I should try opening it up

This sounds pretty odd, you mentioned that this is an external Solid-State Drive (SSD), is that so?
If the external incorporates such a drive, there shouldn't be any sounds coming out of the drive. These sounds are typical for mechanical hard drives (HDDs) and they tend to indicate that a drive has failed physically due to hardware corruption.
IF your external drive is in fact an external HDD with clicking noises, then you should definitely consider contacting the manufacturer's customer support for assistance. If it's still covered by the warranty, you should be able to RMA the product.
Since it's recognized in Device Manager, I'd suggest you run a diagnostic tool and determine what is the health and SMART status of the drive inside.
Do you have any important data on the external that is not backed up?

Let me know how it goes!

Yes I'm probably dumb and i wasnt sure what i held in my hand was, Since it makes a noise and feels like it has moving stuff inside it, its a HDD, Sorry for not telling you i didnt know myself,

The Diagnostic tool couldnt detect the drive, only the one that is working inside the computer at the moment.

I do no have important data on it but it is important that i have some kind of external drive for my work.
