Can't decide on a monitor

So basically for like the last 2 hours I've been shopping around for the best possible monitor within my budget (looking for under 500$) and my mind has been absolutely destroyed by response times, contrast ratios, 1440p, 4k, 144hz, and all sorts of other stuff that serves to confuse me more. Basically, I was looking for what the best option would be for me given this build:
Intel Core i7-3770 CPU @ 3.40GHz
16GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 4GB
Windows 10
I know that 144hz vs 4k is kind of a subjective thing, but at this I'm kind of willing to pull the trigger on whatever sounds like the best option.
Thanks in Advance

1440p is about as high as I would go for the GTX 970, unless you aren't planning on gaming at that resolution. Also your refresh rate will solely depend on what kind of games that your playing. If you playing turned based games, then 60 Hz will do. If you do some FPS type of games and want to get all the benefits of a higher refresh rate, then 120-144 Hz monitors is where you want to be. The other question is whether or not you want G-sync on your monitor, since you have an Nvidia GPU. Personally I think G-sync is a nice option, but I think it is still a bit too spendy for my liking (your values may be different than mine).

Unless you plan on upgrading your GPU to at least a GTX 1080, I wouldn't worry about a 4k monitor, IMO. The GTX 970 should be fine at 1440p (assuming your not going super wide screen mode - 21:9).

Sorry about the downvote, I'm pretty new to the forums and was trying to figure outhow to respond. Anyhow, I play FPS and other pretty framerate intesive games so I do think that a higher refresh rate would be a good option. Also, although I know that I could probably just research this myself but because im rather lazy i'd rather ask you, do you know if 1440p 120-144hz monitors exist in the under 500$ price range? Also, although I think G-sync would be nice, I don't find it necessary for me at least.
