hey guys im running i7 4790k @ 4.5ghz factory overclocked... 16gb ddr3 1866mhz factory overclocked as well... this psu 650watts gold certified and 120gb ssd plus 2tb not much but i have evga gtx 980ti 6gb gddr5. the problem is i tried evga precision x to overclock my gpu to around 1300mhz core but i get random shutdowns at heavy load. is my card defective? a friend of mine once told me to change psu but i never took him up on it. my card temperatures usually get to 76 degrees on full load, cpu around 80 and i am not water cooled so i dont know what to touch first. should i remove the factory overclock on the cpu to avoid random shutdowns? or is it something wrong with my setup?another thing my gpu usually hits around 90fps maxed out on 1920 by 1080 i have seen posts of people hitting more than that on the exact same gpu. please is my card defective or the processor cant cope? oh by the way im using a benq 144hz 1920 by 1080 monitor my brother left me

Hello... Basically these devices need the Watts from the +12Vdc rail of the power supply... there are many voltages in a PS, and they get added together as a "650" watt" unit... what model? or what is your +12 Vdc rail rated at? post a iMG of the PS label?

4790K 88 watts TDP @ 4GHz
980ti 250 watts TDP @ 1002 core 7010 mem
Hello... It could be temperature problem... or a voltage problem... or OC setting problem with CPU, GPU, or both...
I suggest you take a cover off your case when doing any overclocking testing... to reduce temperature problems/effects in your hardware testing.

I would also Test each hardware OC setting one at a time... OC the CPU and test with STD clock GPU... Then OC the GPU with STD CPU clock... check the temperatures you are getting and stability of OS/Games operations... When satisfied with your results, try the OC's together... Now check hardware temperatures and operation with the Case closed... This can take a few days to get all the right information and settings for a stable reliable system.

If you use a FPS tester, you can watch and record how slight increases with clocks change things... BUT there is a point where your OC is just increasing power use and heat and not the FPS performance. B /

The Power supply ~should~ have enough juice to power that system unless its a garbage cheapo unit. Is the system stable with no overclocking performed? Which games are getting 90fps at 1080p? with a 980ti you should be running higher than that on a lot of games so long as they aren't too new or unoptimized
