Is my CPU cooler facing the right way?

Whilst building my PC it showed the cooler facing this way in the diagram, but it seems to touch/push the RAM stick in the closest RAM slot to it. I believe this has caused problems as I have since removed the RAM stick and the computer now runs fine...

Usually the fan is mounted like in this pic so it's pushing air into the heatsink towards the rear exhaust , but it can be mounted on the other side in a pull a configuration , with very minimal performance loss. The fan can also be mounted a tad higher to clear ram modules if they aren't too tall.

In my case, I have the CPU cooler in a really dodgy place so air is blowing vertically towards the upper parts of the case, although it has a vent its just......ew :D (I bought my PC from a company that clearly don't know how to build PC's so I am slowly rebuilding the whole system)

To be honest, it can be any way horizontal or vertical but air blowing the same way as the exhaust fan will be better optimized for good airflow :)
