Fitting HDMI port? Seems the MB has capability

Hi,

I am fitting a new charge port on a Samsung np-rv510 laptop. The customer has shown me that the laptop doesn't have a HDMI port (upon googling this question I have found it usually has a rubber plug to block it out).
But there does seem to be a part on the motherboard where I could solder in the new HDMI port and it would fit nicely in the rubber'd out hole.

I'm just wondering, as it does look like a HDMI port can be fitted, would it actually work?

I have found that the port is blocked out as Samsung would use the case for another laptop that does have HDMI, that explains the blocked part on the case but I don't understand why the motherboard has the bit where I could solder one in. If I did solder one in, found the drivers etc, would it work?

Heres the part on the MB:

Thanks,

Zac

Hi, usually when the motherboard doesn't have the connector, you don't have all the components for the feature. They don't installed the resistors, the capacitors, the transistors, the inductors and the connector for the HDMI to function. They save on all the components for the HDMI.

right, the board has the space for the components since it is a single board that runs multiple versions. the space is there but no idea if the rest is there to support the port. like jarotech noted there may be other things missing as well as the port itself. if you can find pics of the board from a model that has the hdmi port you may be able to tell if anything is missing.

never tried to add features like this so no idea if it is possible at all or as simple as soldering the port to the board and installing drivers.

Thanks for the replies. Was just à thought but what you both say makes sense, I ended up putting it all back together last night after replacing the charge port and told the lad it couldn't be done.

Nice to know for the future though :)

yah it is. i've replaced lots of pieces on laptops but never tried adding in features like that. maybe i can try it out on some old units i have sitting around. can't hurt an old laptop that is not useful for much. gives me something to do on a rainy day when i am all netflix'ed out
