I have an Asus CROSSHAIR V FORMULA-Z mobo running win 7. I keep seeing this "utility" pop up, and i cant close this window. it doesnt update or check for update or anything. The Asus Bios Flashback utility. it is random when it pops up, and doesnt seem to matter if my bios is up to date or not. I cant figure out how to get rid of it. it wouldnt be a problem except i cant get to anything behind it, or move it.

From your motherboard support page it just looks like it is an optional software feature for your motherboard.

You should be able to go into your installed programs, find it, and uninstall it. It is obviously an attempt at keeping the BIOS up-to-date, but if it is annoying you there is no reason you shouldn't be able to remove it.

That Bios utility is for Z97 deluxe and not for Crosshair V Formula Z.
Choose to not remind you again and tick the box for "Do not set the download schedule'

Your best and safest Bios update method for CVFZ.
Go to ASUS support and download the Bios file to an empty fat32 formatted USB stick.
You can update the Bios using your rear IO panel. Power down the system so there is only power to the MB. Plug the USB stick into the correct USB port then press the ROG flashback button for a few seconds. It will start to flash and when it stops you are done. Refer to your manual for rear IO connections page 2-13 of your MB manual. The correct port is port 1 and the ROG flashback or connect button is the one with the intertwined race tracks.

I will try checking that box and seeing if that changes something. but like i said, so far nothing i click on actually does anything. it just sits there until i reboot, and it appears again some random time.

Hi, thank you but i still dont know how to get rid of this since i cant click anything on it or shut it off.

It's strange and iv'e never encountered this before where you can't interact with the settings.
Did you actually manage to update your Bios using the method described.?
If your Bios is up to date then try cleaning your registry with CCleaner.
If that does not work then contact ASUS, they may have the answer.

I have been able to update using the ASUS auto update, but no, not this utility. It doesnt appear all the time, but it doesnt seem to have anything to do with asus updates. When it does appear, as a small window on my main screen. SOMETIMES, i can click a setting or button on it, but only once before it freezes and stays for a few restarts. I also have run a couple different cleaners on my system over the years, but it seems to always return.

i will get a hold of asus and let you know what they say
