Nick_120 :
How much is my computer worth for resale?, I currently have my gaming pc which I do use a fair bit, but I need to get something more practical and portable like a laptop or Intel nuc.
My specs:
i5 4690k @4.3ghz
1x8gb Kingston ram / 1x2gb unknown ram
XFX RX 480 RS edition 4Gb
Asus H81M-plus mobile
Corsair CX600 PSU
CiT dominator case
1TB seagate hdd / 500Gb Samsung hdd
Speedlink controller
I think that's the main stuff, it isn't portable at all, and isn't really practical as I need a small powerful portable machine for rendering and media tasks as of now for my course.
I paid around the £700 ($850-900) mark for it and the cpu and gpu are only 4 weeks old :/ but it isn't practical I guess I should of thought about it before hand
Let's take this slow. I'd not sell a 4690K for less than $150. They are selling used 4690Ks for $180 on eBay.
The CX series isn't all that great. $25 used.
Unknown RAM? Uhhhhhh no. That doesn't work.
https://www.piriform.com/speccy/download WIll show you the specs. Click on RAM and see the details. If you posted this that would obviously be your Achilles heel. I can find it for $38 brand new. An 8GB kit. Sure, you have 10GB but an unknown? An off brand? Same timings, voltage and speed? $12
And it gets worse. You have a K CPU on a H81 board? So they have a chip that can overclock but a board that seriously restricts it? Another $25 for a board that used to be $60 brand spanking new. The 4690K belongs on a Z97 board.
A $30 case? $20
A Seagate 1TB drive can be purchased for $50. $30. A Samsung 500GB? New at $40. $20
Used $30 controller? $10.
$213 480. I can buy a manufacturer refurbished 480 for $169. Another $150.
That's $387.
OS? $89
If you get all I think you should ask for It's a $500 used system. You really don't have any STRONG selling points. Sure the 4690 is a bad*** chip, back in its day. It is still a good chip. Stays cool with a 212 Evo(Under 50C). Tops out at about 57% load with Far Cry 4. Great to pair with a 970 when they were both new. I have them both. So, okay the 4690K is a strong point. You then body-slammed that with a cheap POS motherboard that negates the overclocking abilities. A 480 is a very good GFX card to pair with the 4690K. It however isn't a 1060. People are selling off their old systems in favor of upgrading. Even my card which was about $300 when I purchased it is being sold for about $150 on the used market. I'm aware what your system is capable of.
This is not and was not a well thought out build. Not even a SSD. Those are becoming more and more popular for at least the OS and the most used programs and maybe some games. Rendering LOVES memory. You should get 16GB next time. How about 3000MHz DDR 4 with a Skylake CPU? Then the timing takes a hit.... Anyways a SSD would be in your best interest. Seriously speeds up rendering jobs. But whoever looks at this and KNOWS what they are looking at will walk away. There are too many holes.
