Start by adding to ur existing system, the best PSU. (The latest 650 watt Seasonic Platinum PSU or Corsair's version of it.)
Then add a GTX1070. (Asus Strix OC GTX1070).
Finally, shop for CPU, MOBO and RAM if u think u still need it.

i feel its my cpu though holding me down from running games at max or high settings. so wouldnt i want to do mobo an cpu first an psu. i feel the other part are easy to change out but those are not.

Your CPU is just fine and you don't need to upgrade it, it's not holding you down. Your GPU is, and should be upgraded.

If your resolution is 1080p, there is almost no reason to go above GTX 1060, it will max out anything on that resolution. 1070 is recommended for 1440p.

What is your PSU?

Your CPU is just fine for current games. I have the 4690K which only runs 300Mhz faster. Together with my GTX 1070 and 16Gb of memory, everthing runs at highest settings in 2560x1440p. Gears of War 4 average about 100 FPS. Your 500 Watt PSU should be fine as well. I have a Corsair 650HX which more or less is idleling with my setup.

Fractal Design Nano S case
MSI H97 mini-itx MB (used to have full-size ATX 97Z board)
Intel Core i5-4690K (watercooled)
16 gb Kingston hyperX 1600 Mhz
MSI GTX 1070 Sea Hawk X EK @2050Mhz (watercooled)
3 x SSD 250 GB
Custom waterloop with 1x120 and 1x240 mm radiator in a single loop.

an if i cant fit the cooler would that cause a issue with me gaming or over heat my cpu. but if u were to look at my case it bubbles out on the sides so i think it would fit.

Here's how it works Billy_13... :)

The PSU is always thought to be less important than anything else. When in reality, ur gambling if u fail to buy the best. Think of the best (not the most powerful so don't confuse watts with being better) PSUs as costing only 50% more (on sale of course) than the average PSU that ppl swear by. Ppl say to get, this. Or ppl say get, that. When in actuality, u want the best of the best of the best. The Good and Bad news is that they are only in the $200 range (less on sale).

But i just did some quick research and discovered that when i said in my 1st post u needed the latest "650 watt Seasonic Platinum" wat i really meant was "650 watt Seasonic Titanium", because of some recent reviews i'd read about it. That being said, i just googled it for u and let me point u 1st to:

Seasonic Prime Titanium 650W PSU Review (THG)

^^^ great news is that it is only $160 retail. :)
Note: ^^ is just the link to the conclusion page.
Note: ^^ it has a TEN year warranty!!! (Unprecedented for a PSU)

Let me continue by pointing out that Googling for other reviews of it is a great idea. U will be shocked how awesome the PSU is. Also note that getting the 750 watt version for a few more dollars is also highly advisable.

Note: i just upgraded to an X99 MOBO with (2) GTX1070(SLI) and an i7-6850K CPU. And i already had a 860 watt Seasonic Platinum PSU. (Corsairs's version the AX860.)

I reiterate Billy_13, get the best PSU always first! Google just "why a Computer PSU is important".
Why Your Power Supply Choice Is So Important
How to pick the best PC power supply
Best Site for PSU Reviews

The PSU is like the Heart of ur PC. And no matter the Brain (CPU) ur PC has, with a bad heart ur PC may be lackadaisical (it may perform way less than wat it could do) or the entire PC could result in being a very bad overall investment of ur time and money- as a result of having less than the best PSU.

Buy a Seasonic PSU or a Corsair version of it. They (Seasonic) are the best ever. I base this on reading hundreds and hundreds of reviews. And Seasonic (or Corsair's version of it) always come out on top. (Keywords to search for are, "Original Manufacturer + [Brand and Model Number]". And that kind of search will result in finding out whom actually made a PSU and NOT just a Name slapped on it.)

GL :)

Well, reviews...
Scroll to the end (Summary) of the following two reviews:

1. Corsair HX750i [Platinum] 750W

^^ A 9.6 score and dozens and dozens of PSUs have achieved that score.

2. Seasonic Prime [Titanium] 750W

^^ A Perfect 10 score and only a handful have ever achieved a Perfect 10 score in ten years that the guy has reviewed PSUs. :)

A Titanium PSU is better than Platinum PSU. And only a few dollars more. It's like a Ferrari for the price of a Porsche. lol (jk i know nothing of cars.)

figure out if Corsair is going to sell a Seasonic Prime Titanium 750W, with the Corsair name stamped on it. They might even extend the already unbelievable 10 year warranty to not so believable 12 years. ;) But if not, get the Seasonic Prime Titanium 750W. When i 1st read about it a couple weeks ago i was floored at the review. (i didn't archive or even bookmark the at that time due to my new build was still in progress... Latest status of my new build is GTA 5 Maxes @1440p - G-Sync Monitor- with all Maxed settings and everything flows like butter at 100+ FPS average. Soooo fun!) :)
