My PC freezes during boot, even before I can enter BIOS setup. I have an idea what might have gone wrong, but no clue how to fix this.

Specs that I know right now: Gigabyte S-series motherboard, standard (probably 7200rpm) 500GB HDD. Right now, this is all the info I have to work with. I can update this info once I can take a look at the actual hardware.

My PC was a dual boot Windows 7 & Linux (I think Ubuntu, not relevant I think). I decided to do a clean install of Windows 10 and wipe the whole thing in the process. I used a USB-flash drive with the correct Windows installer and booted from that.

Now, where I think it went wrong, because I wanted a full clean install I formatted ALL the drives. Including the 100MB partitions reserved for system (???, can't check the actual names) thinking that 'system' would be linked to the OS and therefore should be wiped too. When the installation progressed I turned off the monitor and let it do it's thing.

A few hours later the PC was stuck somewhere in the booting process. Trying to initialize/find AHCI devices. It doesn't boot further anymore. This particular part of the booting sequence is between the motherboard splash image and the actual BIOS setup. So hitting DEL to get into BIOS doesn't even work anymore. I have tried without the USB-flash inserted too. No change.

Attached two screenshots, one of the motherboard splash, might show relevant info on the hardware version. And one of the frozen screen.

Hopefully somebody here can help me. Thanks in advance!

SOLUTION:
Not many people read my post. And I've been able to fix the problem myself. My given description may not have been that clear, but just in case I'll explain what worked for me in case somebody stumbles upon this post with a similar problem.

The freeze happened during the AHCI initialization. After some googling I found out that has to do with my HDD interface. So I disconnected my HDD and when it couldn't find the HDD it continued into BIOS setup! Hooray! There I found an AHCI option, turned it off, which changes my setting to IDE (the difference is still not clear to me). Then connected the HDD again and the Windows installer picked up where it left of.

So now I'm not using AHCI. My system is running just fine. Haven't...

So now I'm not using AHCI. My system is running just fine. Haven't really been able to test performance. One question remains: what the hell did I change and are there unwanted consequences I'm not aware of right now...? Is IDE somehow inferior to AHCI?
