Hi,

I've been using my ASUS 970 with a 1080p monitor in i7 4790k system for a while. I was able to either max out graphic settings in many games, or be very close to maxing them out, including Witcher 3, Just cause 3, Titanfall. That was awesome!

After reading many praises about new awesome NVidia 1070, I bought ASUS 1070 Gaming, hoping to upgrade to 1440p with this monster, thinking that the monitor upgrade would be well compensated by the beefier card. Boy, was I wrong!!!

Now, in order to have a decent playable experience, without major lags or screen tearing, graphic settings and some visual effects have to be degraded to "low". Shadows, depth, distance, water reflections are now minimized or gone.

Am I doing something wrong?
Is 1440p too much for NVidia 1070 to handle?
Is there a bottleneck in my system?

Thank you in advance for your feedback and suggestions!

Yes, I uninstalled 970 drivers before installing new 1070 drivers. I haven't checked it with the old 1080p though. Good suggestion! Will check today after work.

Added full system specs to the OP.

That's what I was hoping for. Sounds like I'm not crazy then expecting much better performance.

1080p = 1920x1080 = 2073600 pixels
1440p = 2560x1440 = 3686400 pixels
1440p has about 78% more pixels and roughly need about 78% more performance to get the same fps on the same game with the same graphic settings.

GTX1070 is about 60-70% faster than a single GTX970.

Theoretically, you should see roughly very similar fps between 1080p on gtx970 and 1440p on gtx1070. (no exact science)
If this is not the case, something is wrong with your driver or your card.

After the "upgrade" it feels like the system was downgraded...
First thing I will do is uninstall and reinstall the drivers for 1070.
What can I do to troubleshoot and check if there is anything wrong with the card?
