Hey Everyone,

First off, I will say that I am new to PC gaming and working on PC components as well and thank you for taking your time to work with me because it's frustrating lol. So let me start out by explaining my setup and what lead me to this current point.

ga-z77x-ud3h rev 1
I5 2500k sandy bridge OC 4.5 ghz
GTX 1060 6GB
H60 Corsair Cooler
2 exhaust tops fans
1 back intake for H60 suggestion
1 side fan
1 small front fan

So before I started having the issues I installed the H60 with the Artic Silver 5 paste. Temps were looking really good. high 20s low 30s idle. 60/70 ish during heavy gaming. Battlefield 1 all specs ultra. So then I ended up removing the cooler from the cpu because one of the screws was wiggling. I checked the paste, reapplied some more paste after and reseated the cooler. When I reapplied the paste I removed the old paste.

I added paste equal to the size of a green pea. So I hooked everything up CPU Fan connected to CPU Fan motherboard slot and H60 pump connected to the SysFan 2). Checked the RPM in Bios. Pump connector is going at 1200 ish RPM and the CPU fan was going full speed I believe

So when I sign back into windows the idle temps look really good. so about 20/30 again. But once I start gaming or applying load then the temps get way hotter than before. Like 80/90 cpu temps and I'm noticing that core 1 is generally alot cooler than the other cores. So for example:

Cores:
1: 78/79
2: 87
3: 90
4: 95

The only reason I dont believe its completely related to the OC is because before I decided to be a Mr. Fix All the temperatures were running fine under 4.5 gz. Any ideas on what could be the issue?

Also note that I reapplied the paste again a second time to try and fix it but its still running hot during gaming. Any suggestions would be well appreciated!!

Solution
Try tightening the screws on the cooler. Dont be afraid to mount it very very tightly.

If the pump was bad, it would make a grinding sound. Sometimes loud sometimes not too loud but still noticeable alongside high temperatures.

Is the cpu cooler mounted well. Does it have enough pressure? Is the pump making any funny noises? What thermal paste do you use?
When you took off the cooler, you said you cleaned the cpu from the old paste, but did you clean the cooler too?

The CPU cooler should be mounted well. All 4 mount screws are not showing any movement and the cooler feels secure. But maybe I should try applying more pressure and tighten the screws some more? I do not think the pump was making any funny noises but I will double check. Is there any particular type of should I should look for?

I used Artic Silver 5 Thermal Paste. And yes I wiped off the cooler as well.

Great! I can try that once I get home. Thank you for your quick responses. For the H60 cooler, do you think I should attach the pump to the CPUFan Header? or should I attach the actual fan to the CPUFan Header?

I enjoy doing quick responses. It gets me out of classwork since im currently in high school.
With my H60 that I had, I had the screws as tight as they would go and for the connections, I would connect the fan to the cpu header and if you motherboard has it, connect the pump to the CPU_OPT header. If your motherboard doesnt have that header, I would connect the pump to a system header.

Well I appreciate your time man. So lets say I go home and tighten the screws to the cooler etc and I'm still not seeing and changes in performance. What would you say would be my next step to take?
