Do I need a 6th Gen Intel Processor to run a DDR4 supported Motherboard?

I have Intel 4460 Processor running in my system and Gigabyte B85M-D3H motherboard. Now I was looking to upgrade the mobo that will support DDR4 RAM as that is really better than the DDR3 ones.
Somebody told me that I would need a 6th processor to run a Mobo that will support DDR4 RAM, is it true?
Or can I stick to my current processor, because it's doing really well for me. Just want to upgrade the Motherboard if possible.

I am new in this community so any help would be really appreciated.

Ah alright, in that case then I would go with the MSI version :) Yes you should have 16GB because this will allow more stability when frames are being rendered and will make 60fps absolutely achievable without any drops for most games. I think your PSU will be alright but you might want to consider upgrading it to 600w, not a must though.

Even if there were any mobo for Intel 4th Gen CPUs with DDR4, the performance difference in most things against DDR3 would be virtually unnoticeable. Only in rendering there should be a difference in how fast is done, still, that difference wouldn't be that big.

My point is if you wanna upgrade your RAM you could go from your actual amount to 8 or 16GB of RAM (DDR3 obviously). Other than that jumping to DDR4 it wouldn't be for DDR4 itself, but for the new 6th gen CPU architecture.

Hi,
Thanks for your answer, it helped actually. Can you tell me one more thing as it says you are a "graphics card expert". I am planning to open a Youtube gaming channel and I want to record game-play and then edit them to upload to youtube. That's why I was planning to to change the Mobo and RAM. I am willing to buy a GTX 1060 actually, now confused about which one should I buy ASUS strix is a bit more pricy for me. Which one would you suggest except the ASUS strix version. Also would this system of mine work smoothly for my necessary works?

With this request I would suggest the following: GTX 1060 ASUS Strix (If you can afford it if not Palit Super Jetstream)
16GB (2x8GB RAM) to allow smooth FPS in games,
Download NVIDIA GeForce Experience and enable the "Share" feature, this allows you to press "ALT+Z" in game and you can link your YouTube and Twitch to it so you can upload straight from the overlay without interrupting your game as well as record your game play at 1080p 60fps and you can also stream with options for a stream overlay as well, good stuff! :D For the highest core clock in the 1060 cards I would go with the Palit Super Jetstream version :)

Hi,
Thanks, but as I said the ASUS STRIX is a bit expensive for me. The also the Palit Version is not available in my country. Available cards are MSI, ZOTAC, ASUS, GIGABYTE. Suggest me one among these.
Also I have 8GB of RAM, should I buy another 8GB for better performance. I have a Thermaltake 550w Litepower PSU, would that be enough for my system or should I upgrade that too?
