Hi all,

I am looking to upgrade my rather outdated 8800 GT to one of the new GTX 1050 or GTX 1050 Ti cards and I have a few questions.

1. would this upgrade be ok for my PC or would there be bottleneck or other issues?

2. If this card is ok for my system, Im on a small budget and unsure on which of these would be best for me after reading some of the reviews. So would the extra money for one of the cheaper (£140 ish) 1050 Ti cards be worth it in my situation, or could i get away with a standard 2gb 1050?

I run two 24" Benqs at 1080p and do mostly 3d max and photoshop stuff on my PC but would like to play some of the newer games Battlefield 1, Titanfall 2 among others. I will only be looking to game on one monitor while the other has skype or itunes etc)

Thanks.

PC spec,
Asus B85-Plus haswell motherboard (UEFI BIOS)
Crucial 8GB (2x4gb) DDR3 1866Mhz Ballistix Tactical Memory (running at 1600Mhz)
Intel Pentium Dual Core G3420 3.20GHz Socket 1150 3MB Cache
Asus 8800GT graphics card (looking to replace)
WD 1Tb Black HDD
Asus sata DVD RW drive
Coolermaster GX 650w 80plus PSU
Windows 10 64bit OS

Monitors,
Benq GL2450HM
Benq GL2460

yes, you can run the 1050. you might see some bottlenecking of the GPU and/or CPU depending on the game or program youre running. You should be able to play all of the new games at 1080p, although not necessarily maxed out.

The Ti is a better card overall, but its not 40GBP worth better. At that point I would just save a bit more and go with a 1060.

The GTX 1050 would be a good upgrade for your system, but your dual core CPU will hold back it's performance in CPU intensive games like Battlefield 1. In other newer titles, you will get decent framerates at 1080p, at medium settings, though there will be noticeable bottlenecking.

Of course the 1060 will work and is probably the better way to go. The difference seen between the 1050 and 1050Ti likely wont be enough to justify the increased price, at least in games. that said, the extra speed might have more of an impact on rendering things in 3dsm. Totally up to you. I personally dont think you will see a big enough difference between the two to warrant the price difference.
