Help with fan speed control

Hey everyone,

So I am having some issues with fan speeds on my new rig. I have an MSI x99a pro carbon motherboard and it came with all of these applications on it. I had never heard of command center and I am starting to wish I never did. In command center you can temporarily change the speeds of your fans to be whatever you would like and even control OC features (which I have no interest in using). The problem I am having is in my Bios my fan speeds are set to 100% and I wanted to leave them that way and change them in my command center if I decided to lower them. Also I have a water cooler and the pump and radiator fans have to stay at 100%. However whenever I boot up my computer and turn on command center, it changes them to smart mode and drops them to 50%. When I check my Bios they stay at 100% but again anytime I boot it drops the speeds. No bueno. Any ideas on what I can do? I would uninstall the command center altogether but I like the control it can offer as well as the temperature gauge for the cpu and the system. I don't have room in my system with the radiator to install a front panel fan controller, nor should I since all of the fans are attached to their own controllers. (Thermaltake Riing RGB edition).

Things to note:
I have tried to install the radiator fans to the systemfan1 instead of pumpfan1 and the cpu pump is installed to the cpufan which stays at 100%, or its supposed to...

from your motherboards bios settings ??

''Fan control field f This motherboard provides a fan speed control feature call Smart Fan. Please check the Smart Fan Mode box to enable the Smart Fan. It automatically controls fan speed depending on the current CPU temperature and to keep it with a specific operating speed. When the current CPU temperature is over/ under the setting temperature, the CPU/ system fan will run at the corresponding speed. In this field, drag the color points to configure the fan speeds and the target temperatures of CPU for four level''

PAGE 76 ???

maybe using that program may conflict with the bios settings ??

then if nothing else invest in a fan controller that fits in a drive bay ??

Damn I thought that was going to be the solution. I want to use a fan controller but apparently linking the controllers that are stock with my fans with another fan controller isn't really recommended, but they have to be used for the RGB effects.
Well the instructions for the water cooler state that they should but I can reduce them, I thought 100% was a little high too but I usually turn my fans down when I am not stressing the system. What do you use to monitor your temps then?

Usually HWMonitor but depends what I am doing tbh. No software is 100% reliable, and temps are less accurate when idle with any software compared to BIOS.

Yeah the RGB controller is the problem you have with the fans I guess. Have never used those but according to the stats they run at 800-1500rpm / 400-1000rpm (Low Noise Mode). Am surprised you cant change them. What cooler is it?

but they look amazing so I really don't want to change them out

I could look into those too... I just uninstalled the application and it seems to be working great. Downloaded HWMonitor and it seems fairly accurate too. And the pins on the board are 4 pins and most of these fans controllers are 4 pins aside from the water cooler which is 3 pins and the board is 4. I am not sure why they are different but I guess that could be a part of it too. From what I have read that shouldn't have much of an effect on it

A lot of non cpu_fan 4 pin headers are still 3 pin voltage controlled, despite the 4th pin. 4 pin are technically PWM controlled. The fourth pin is the pulse width mod. What connectors and what board do you have?

And I meant change the fans RPM, not the fans themselves.

Ya exactly, you know I like to give it a chance if it seem useful but more often than not it just does this crap.... was hoping someone found a fix and no luck there. Thank you for the help though :)

Yea thats what I read, just means it should stay at max voltage. I have the msi c99a pro carbon board the connectors came with the water cooler and the fans so they are just stock to those. All in all the only thing I will miss is the accurate temp measurements which I can get for a few extra clicks in HWMonitor =P

Lol well I took your recommendation yesterday actually, the only one running at 100% all o fthe time is the water pump per the requirements =P

Geez...
Were you able to cleanse it after the new install or just kind of ignored it?

Well for now I will leave the pump, it is extremely quiet, even at 100% it really was not loud at all

some are temp controlled [dynamic ] only some 100% some you can custom set ?/

and ya a clean os install got rid of it I fought it for weeks thought something else was wrong totally purged it and all was 100% good - thing was ti was 100 % good for months in till I decided to use asus suite and with in 2 sec. it was all over but the crying

what cooler kit are you running ??

then it maybe just how that bios is on that board ?

Good I'm glad you got rid of yours too. No no no I set the water cooler to 100% myself, took it off of smart mode. Then I set the other fans all to smart mode. The instructions had huge font bold print statements saying it should always be at 100% but I might look into that too because when you think about it, its still a cooling system and why cool 100% if its at 29* celsius.

True but if I can preserve the life of the unit for even a small amount more I should try, no?
