Last week after much deliberation I purchased an EVGA 1080 card (https://www.amazon.co.uk/EVGA-GeForce-Cooling-Express-Graphics/dp/B01GBX86U0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1478127099&sr=8-1&keywords=evga+1080). Then a couple of days later reports started surfacing of the cards overheating and sometimes catching fire (http://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/evga-gtx-1080-1070-overheating-issue/). According to official EVGA posts, they will update the drivers to adjust the fan curve which will (according to them) 100% fix the problem. My problem is, will it fix the problem by making my PC sound like one of those Dyson handdryers? The card hasn't arrived yet so I could cancel the order and go for a different GPU but I'm not that experienced in PC upgrading so I'm not sure whether that would be overkill. What would you do?

Thanks, I saw the options but I was hoping to get some opinions from more experienced people on what they would do. I'm tempted to return the card just because I don't really know what the chances are that it will cause me problems later - EVGA say that the VBIOS update will 100% fix the problem but wouldn't you if you were in their position?

Haha yeah good point. You will probably be ok if they are offering replacements with new VBIOS and heatsinks etc, but for that cost you don't want to be having to worry about waiting for RMA's or manually updating VBIOS etc really.

Well I installed the new VBIOS, the PC became very loud turning into a vacuum cleaner very often. I didn't install the thermal pads because EVGA said the VBIOS would 100% fix the problem.

While playing the new DOOM, the card failed so I'll be sending it back and buying another model.
