i have 4gb ddr 3 ram and i want to make it 8gb so if i purchase another 4gb ram it will make it 8 right?
motherboard is gigabyte H55M-D2H
and what things should i see for purchasing new ram?
i dont know much about ram, can u suggest one

Solution
ok any word on the revision? because the rev 1.3 can handle 4 gb ram and the 1.4 can handle 8. assuming it is the one that can handle 8 the cas latency and timings seem ok, but in this particular swap your old stick with severely restrict the new one. can the old stick run a higher mhz and stay below 1.5v or no. if not the changes in voltage and step down of the better stick makes me think you would be better just buying a pair.

You should know that everyone here on this site will always tell you the same thing... to not mix different RAM or RAM bought at different times.

Well, from my experience... I've mixed up RAM before and never had any problems so don't be frightened by "scare tactics"... you will surely receive them.

Just make sure they have the same timing and also make sure you keep the receipt and the store has a good return policy. If you run into problems you can always return them, right?

But to answer your question... YES, you'll have 8GB of RAM if you installed another 4GB.

i agree with SBMfromLA as long as the ram types(timings, pcs etc.) are the same no issue mixing them. just dont forget if you can xmp them through your bios it will function at its peak.

no matter what i want to check something with you, all models i see specs say dual channel ram. so look between your dimm slots and tell me if it says dual in between them.
