Connected to an aging hard drive, would it cause damage to other hardware too?

I will replace the PSU together with motherboard with a new one because they are defected howeve one of the hard drives is also aging which will fail sooner or later (said by the staff ). However I don't want to replace a hard drive, would it cause damage to other hardware too?

Solution
nope, it wont hurt it, but if it fails you will need to get a new one before you can use your tower again, but it wont damage hardware, just software stored on it

Neglect file safety, only considering hardware level, because I can risk file loss, no important files. However I am worried that if it would cause damage to my new motherboards or PSU

But The salesman said its possible

yeah the salesman was just trying to push another hdd on you, i have never heard of an hdd causing damage to other components, like i said just make sure it isnt your primary boot drive!, or put drivers on it, but i cant imagaine a hdd frying a mobo or anything. i have heard of a bad mobo frying components, but the mobo is good on yours!

My computer gives out strong smell like burning plastic so I took it to them for test and repair, while working totally without problem. They said the PSU has some blowing that I can believe because it's likely to be PSU failure that gives out smell. However he also said my mobo couldn't recognize some commands that might lead to hard drive data problems, he suggests replacing PSU ,mobo and hard drive

I really do not want to replace my hard drive because I do not want to bother installing windows again ,if I keep that problem drive as boot drive, my only concern is if it's would cause damage to any function of other hardware, i want to emphasize again I CAN risk file loss on that drive, since no important file inside, only a few common applications without any important data

As long as you guys are confident that a failing or aging hard drive as a system drive would not damage or ruin my other new hardware like mobo and PSU in any way, I will keep using that hard drive

Can you post screenshot of HDtune health for your "aging" drive?
Anyway - if you're replacing motherboard to one with different chipset, you'll need to reinstall windows to avoid various compatibility/performance problems.
But if your HDD is working on old system, it should not damage anything on your new system.

I finally decided to replace PSU , mobo and hard drive. I ve gone through a lot of painful time building my PC, in five years time, this is the 3rd PSU ,3rd mobo, 2nd Ram, if I encounter problems again in three years I will NEVER build a PC again . I swear

I used a dell Inspiron desktop for eight years but never had any problems.
In five years time with this DIY PC , I encounter burning smell for two time,
in 2013 and now 2016. it's really a waste of money and time and I feel so frustrated
And regretful about building my own PC

I removed my static before handling components,
I handled with care
I made sure my hand dry before installing the components
I just don't know what I have done wrong
