Hello,

Apologies if this is the wrong forum.

I have this annoying problem, which should be easy to sort out - yet so far failed to resolve. I have two Apple devices, an iPad Air and an iPod Touch 6th Generation - both using the latest operating system/software (iOS 10.1.1). My PC's operating system is Windows 10 Pro 64-bit and obviously I have iCloud for Windows.

As you probably know, the iPad Air has fairly limited storage space - so I don't want it clogged up with photos. But whatever I do, the Air - and the Touch as well - keeps automatically downloading (or syncing) all my photos from the iCloud, taking up a lot of space. If I delete the photos, it just automatically downloads them all again! Even more infuriatingly, or odder, when I deleted all my photos from the Touch it also deleted from the iCloud - so I had to recover them all from the bin: only for all the photos to be downloaded again to my Touch. Yes, I've turned off Photo Stream and Photo Sharing - but that doesn't make any difference.

So a simple question: how do I set it up so that so that all my photos - or videos - are automatically uploaded to the iCloud but are not automatically downloaded again when I delete them from my devices (especially the Air)? Is it even possible? I would just like all my stuff to be stored online in the iCloud, then pick through it all at my leisure.

Thanks,
DANNY O'DARE

I know this is not the answer you are looking for but have you tried the following:
Settings > iCloud > Photos > Optimize [your device name here] Storage
"..., full-resolution photos and videos are automatically replaced with optimized versions. Full resolution versions are stored in iCloud."
It may help with the storage space issue. I have not seen a way to keep the photos and videos in iCloud and be able to delete them from your Apple devices. Of course because I don't know doesn't mean that it's not possible.
