Is techspot reliable for GPU comparisons?

I currently have an ASUS Radeon R9 290 4GB DirectCU II OC. I currently play on 1080p on it and would like to upgrade to a 1440p monitor to play Battlefield 1 (BF1) on it.

As the cards release preceeded BF1, there are no official reviews about how the 290 runs that game on 1400p. I was wondering if this page on tech spot (which claims that BF1 on the R9 290 runs between 54 and 63 fps on 1440p) could be relied upon.

Any thoughts out there on this?

I highly doubt they made up any of the numbers, but go back to page 1 and make sure you understand that those figures are valid for a Core i7-6700K overclocked to 4.5GHz with 16GB of memory.

You can estimate based on the CPU scaling where you'll actually end up.

I am using a i7 5820K which is not exactly 4.5 ghz. Not sure if that would make a difference. My complete setup is:

  • GPU: ASUS Radeon R9 290 4GB DirectCU II OC (R9290-DC2OC-4GD5)
    MOBO: ASUS X99-DELUXE
    CPU: Intel Core i7-5820K, Socket-LGA2011-3
    RAM : 4x Crucial Ballistix DDR4-2400 SP QC - 16GB
    SSD: Samsung 850 Pro 512
    HD: Seagate Barracuda 2TB
    PSU: EVGA Supernova G2 850W
    HSF: Noctua NH-U12S

Hopefully I would not be too far off the 54 and 63 fps range with the above setup.

I trust TechSpot benchmarks. In fact, that's usually where I go to first for benchmarks. I also trust PC Gamer, as they have been producing some good in-depth benchmarks as of late.

Ok thanks for all the answers guys. Most of you have answered the question; wish I could give more than one "correct" answer.

@mlga91

Thanks for the heads up on directx 12.
