I have a MSI X79a-gd45 motherboard that is toast. I would like to replace it with something more current, but still use the same processor and memory I have in there.

I am not a gamer, just use it as a tower home system. So it need not be super high end. OTOH, it needs to be able to run Win7 and if I upgrade one eon, Win10.

Any suggestions are REALLY appreciated as I am most definitely not tech savvy on this stuff.

Thank you!

Solution
As long as the new MB will support the DDR3, you can reuse those RAM.

We don't know what excatly cpu you had, but any i7 is still a good powerful cpu, so buy the new x79 MB for $200/300, if you are in USA.

i was afraid that was the answer.

Any comments on reusing the memory on my board?

I'll literally take any suggestion and run with it. Speed is not really op importance, just a working reliabel system that will run win7 & Win10

Your help appreciated!
