OK, so I have a client here and he has a budget of 6K but can go higher.

We are watercooling the whole build. My question is how much faster is Titan X(P) in SLI vs 1080 SLI? 1080 SLI would be preferable for me and him (more $ for me, less cost for him) but if the performance increase is big enough...

Solution
Since its sli setup guys dont recommend anything less than a 5930k or a 6850k. Those 2 processors have enough lanes so both gpu's can run full speed at x16 and x16.
Its really not. Dual 1080's can be had for less than 1400 while titan xp's will run you almost $2500. The Titan XP is only around 15% up to 20% faster but at almost 200% of the cost. dual 1080's in sli is a much smarter idea. What is the rig for gaming? What kind of monitor will it be powering?

I believe a 3440x1440p ultrawide 34" monitor.

For gaming:
In SLI the 1080 doesn't really underperform the Titan XP that much at 4k. If your client wanted to run 5k then he would really be able to tell the difference, but at 1440p the difference again would be minimal. Get 1080 SLI with that 34" ultrawide.

The statistic people are referring to is a single card configuration. I have done the research myself, and at 4k the cost of two Titan XPs is not justified by performance, in fact they are almost a draw at 4k.

A single Titan XP will be more than enough power to max out almost anything on that ultra wide, and single card config is better than SLI.

For video editing:
I honestly have no idea. Benchmarks for Titan X SLI are insanely high, I don't think even 3 1080's can compete with Titan XP SLI when they are pushed. Real world difference is another thing though.

If he is gaming I would do a single Titan XP, if he is doing some heavy editing, add another one. I think even a single Titan XP will be cheaper and perform well enough to max out pretty much anything on that ultra wide.

Here's the basis for the system, I haven't added cooling stuff yet.

If the guy wants to spend $6K on a gaming PC, then you might as well go Titan X SLI. If he is wanting to spend up to $6K, but preferably less, then go with 1080 SLI.

I also see no reason you should make more money putting together a 1080 SLI system. You should be getting a percentage market, meaning the more he spends, the more you make.

No, I earn affiliate money and Titan X(P) is only through Nvidia, not Newegg or Amazon.

I honestly think anyone willing to drop 6k on a computer has to be doing more than gaming. Because honestly the best gaming computer doesn't cost near 6k.

This is very close to my build. It literally has slightly faster RAM, a little more (500GB) storage, and a Titan XP, whereas I have a GTX 1080, but very soon I will have the same monitor, and not long after that a 1080 Ti. There shouldn't be a game I won't be able to max out when that happens, and anything more for gaming is overkill. In fact my 1080 is underutilized in many games and runs at the core clock of 1771 MHz at 60+fps, we'll see how it does with the x34, but it still should do very well. This is my build plus maybe $500 extra and it seriously owns.

You could even throw in another Titan XP and it will still come in under the 6k budget for gaming. Editing is a whole other pony.

You might as well get the Titan XP's if you earned the money via the Nvidia Affiliate program.

How long did it take you to earn the money via the affiliate progam?

Did you use your business website?

Sorry I missed the fact that it's for a client, if it was for my client I would sell him the 2x 1080's in SLI unless he was using it for rendering or deep learning...

If your client has tons of money and wants the best and doesn't care about value than the Titan x's are the way to go.
