Hello. I always checked this website for answer and some knowledge over the years. Finally there is a question that I can't answer. First I'm not from UK or USA so the prices are different and min. wage is different.

Here is my question:

At the moment I own a PC that is roughly from around 2006-2007, so 10 years old. It's packed with AMD X2 4200+, 4gb ram ddr2 and geforce 8600gt 256mb Palit Sonic+. For normal usage it's great and I don't have a problem, but when playing some games and using software like Blender it's not that great. 3D modeling is my hobby, not a job.

I wanted to upgrade cheap, but powerful, so I looked high and low, than decided that the best choice for me would be putting a AMD x4 925 (I wanted 965, but my mobo won't run it sadly) and GTX 650TI with 768 Cuda cores for 3D rendering (I borrowed GT 640 with 384 cuda cores and it's blazing fast, around 10x faster Cuda vs CPU render). All this is within my budget, but many people say to me - Wait and buy a new PC. Ok I agree, but longer I wait the wider the gap becomes and I won't be able to improve myself in 3D modeling. I think it's better to buy a cheaper PC, learn, expand and than in that time save enough cash to buy a new uber PC.

What do you think? Also is there a big difference in DDR2 vs DDR3 performance in terms of 3D rendering? I wanted to make 8gb ddr2 (same price as 8gb ddr3), but is it worth it?
