Hi all.

I have a problem that's been bugging me for some time.I have an
AMD 4170k running on a Asus M5A78l-M/USB3 that i am just using for everyday use
About a month ago it started reading my CPU voltage as 1.4280 instead of the 1.4125.My multiplier reads 21.5(4.3ghz)(stock is 21x)So i went to do some testing. In Bios it reads the same.Installed CPU-Z.
CPU-Z says its an amd 4110 with a tdp of 136.
Aida64 reads it as an AMD 4170k but still wrong voltage
Aol reads it correct.(Voltage etc.)
I have a faulty psu that drops a little 12v power.Temp and everything still fine(32 on idle)and 42 when i push it and its summer here so its pretty descend.I did manually setup bios as well still the same.
So would this be caused by faulty cpu/psu or mbd.

I don't see the need to repair/upgrade this when zens so close to release.

Hm, that is strange. So basically the CPU overclocked itself slightly and also changed into a different chip! :-D

No, but seriously I think it's more likely that whatever sensors/controllers pass on the information may be malfunctioning slightly. If the BIOS is saying the same thing as the software then it's got to be pretty low-level stuff, not just a software problem.

I don't really know what to tell you, but I guess the CPU is still working fine?

If it's just a little power drop on the 12V like 11.4V instead of 12V even. It's not the PSU it's likely the cabling or connectors. It's not uncommon to see voltages a little lower than 12. Still wouldn't cause your CPU to read incorrectly as the power phases between the 12V rail and the CPU would keep the power in check properly and could probably handle voltages as low as 10V or as high as 15. Though you'd likely get alerts and it may try to shut down to protect itself. Besides the point. If it's really bothering you check for BIOS updates and CPU driver Updates to see if that helps to standardize the readings across various programs. It could also be the programs themselves they don't always have the capability to read all chips on all motherboards, at least not correctly.

Sorry i shoul've explained a little better(english is not my first language)

I did run a lot of different tests and program's.Rerolled bios to earlier version redid whole pc from scratch etc. This are the first time something like this happened(PC's 3 years old)so pretty much expected it to give me some problems eventually. It's only cpu-z that reads it incorrectly(use to read as 4170k)

@Max1s.Yep cpu still running pretty descend in the matter of fact upgraded from win 7 - 8.1 and its running amazing.Guess i'll just do some extensive testing aka Qc to check if my controllers chipset etc working. If it goes it goes :p would give me an excuse to get a new pc(gf refuse :D)
