Hey, first time writing a post here. I recently decided that I wanted to try and downsize my rig. I want to move down to a micro-ATX format, but I'm having a hard time picking out a mother board. This is mostly due to the fact that my processor is a Haswell i7-4790k, so their is no huge benefit to upgrading to Skylake, so the MoBo that would support my processor are slim pickings.

I don't overclock so a Z97 chipset isn't really necessary, but an H81 chipset is not really an option either (I don't have an older CPU to use while I update the bios). I use my computer for gaming mostly, but I don't really know if the "business class" H97 MoBos have the durability necessary for all of that heat.

It is worth pointing out that I plan to get an AeroCool DS-Cube so the board will no be suspended sideways. My current board is an ASRock Pro4 and I can't say that I've been very happy with it. The board has given me plenty of issues, which makes me really hesitant to purchase ASRock again.

The current boards that I am currently looking at are these:

GIGABYTE GA-H97M-D3H:

and

ASUS H97M-E/CSM

If anyone has any better suggestions, then I am more than happy to hear them. I'm just trying to get something that I can trust without breaking my bank.

Those are pretty good boards. Asus and Gigabyte are quality brands in my opinion. I own an Asrock pro4 as well. I haven't had too many issues with it, but that's just my case. I'd say go with the Asus one. It has more upgrade ability. If you decide to get a SSD, you have a M.2 port. Overall I think the Asus one is better.
