I have a black screen whenever I try to boot into windows xp, so I installed ubuntu alongside it. I now try to "repair the computer" using the windows xp install cd, but it doesn't boot. Is this a problem with the usb, or ubuntu. I know i burned it properly, the USB had worked before on other computers

Ubuntu would have no issues with your booting off a disk since it does not even begin to load.

You say you are using the XP CD then talk about "the USB had worked before". What exactly are you doing to try to run the setup of XP? Did you test whatever you are using on another computer to make sure it still works? Need some details about what happens when you try to boot, when does this black screen come up during the process?
