Hi,
Wanting some opinions on the best GPU brands. I currently have a EVGA 950 in a build my dad built before he passed away. He was hardcore into building which was kind of my fault since I gave him the computer bug when I was younger. Anyways I've got the bug again and wanting to do a build. I have been looking at the Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1080 8GB G1 and the Extreme version. I was going to stick with EVGA but I've read they have been having issues with heat and possible fire. I'm wanting to stay around the $700 and below range so any input would be helpful

Every single EVGA ACX cooled card of the new series (10X0) which uses a heat...
As far as performance goes there is little to no difference. Even the extreme "OC" versions are getting very similar performance to non "OC" version that have OC applied to them... if that makes sense.

The cooler means very little as the card reaches instability due to voltage long before heat becomes an issue.

EVGA does have thermal runaway issues at the moment that will be / have been resolved.

Go with whatever is the cheapest option - there is ostensibly no difference between all GTX 1080s.

I pretty much second the above.
Pascal cards all OC similarly, so board design is not as important this time around, and the cards are so efficient they never really reach a thermal barrier (excluding EVGAs current issues, however these are being addressed). I personally usually recommend MSI Gaming cards, but with the 1080 get whatever is cheaper*
*to an extent, some companies are much more pleasant to deal with than others.

evga has only issues withb their ftw version ( gpu wise )
dont let people deceive you:)

Every single EVGA ACX cooled card of the new series (10X0) which uses a heat spreader and backplate needs a fan curve fix and a mod to the heat spreader and back plate. SC, Ultimate, FTW, stock - all of them.
