So I'm thinking of getting a new cpu cooler. I have the stock one on right now. My socket is FM2 and CPU is A10-6700. The question is that can I just install the Hyper 212 EVO cpu cooler without having to take out the mother board and changing the thing where you screw the heatsink. like can I just install this cpu cooler on my stock thingy?

Solution
Hello.

The backplate on the EVO 212 needs to be installed. It prevents the motherboard from prying and breaking over time.

It is possible to install this cooler without removing the motherboard. All depends on the size of the CPU cutout of your computer when removing the right cover. If you can see the CPU screws in the back of the motherboard with the panels removed, then you can install the 212 without removing the motherboard usually.
Post pics of your stock cooler, front and back, and we will tell you if it is feasible.
no you need to take out the motherboard .

its not that hard man :) no worries.

lay the case ont he table with the motherboard on the bottom

make a picture of the cables that u need to remove, in order to remove the mobo.
( the 24pin on the right 8 pin on the top. the bottom wires).

no grab a screwdriver and remove the screws to the case.

click the stock cooler loose, and remove the cpu fan cable.

remove the old thermal paste with some 99.9% alcohol.

install the 212 follow the manual, connect the cpu cooler cable to the one u removed the stock cooler from.

reverse the removal steps.

done.

might take an hour.. if youre new.

So this is my CPU cooler, I guess this is not a stock AMD cooler. Acer built this PC so they probably got a aftermarket cooler! My question is that if I get a AMD Athlon X4 760K and overclock it a little bit (like 4.5GHz), will this CPU cooler be able to handle it?

That is the stock cooler actually. Or something very similar to stock.

But that is not what we wanted. We want the cutout under that heatsink, on the other side of the PC. For example:

If the casing is riveted though for the other side....tough luck. :(

The Athlon X4 will only give you very very minimal gains on this FM2 motherboard:

Oh thanks for helping dude! But if I buy an X4 760K and the Hyper 212 EVO and overclock the 760K, will it be much better than the A10-6700. If not, then I won't bother wasting money on these two things.

Yes the EVO is only for 760K because my stock CPU cooler handles the A10-6700 pretty well while playing games like ETS2, GTA 4, Black ops 2. I don't have a graphics card, I run these game off the APU and temps are fine with the stock cooler.

The reason I wanted a 760K was because I think that I have ruined my CPU, I just have this in mind that it's not performing as it used to. Not sure if it's actually or just my thought. So I was changing my thermal paste and while taking off the cpu cooler off the cpu, i kinda pulled the cooler hard and the cpu came off the the cooler sticking to it and I bent some CPU pins, and while trying to fix the pins, I broke off 3 pins. The CPU is working well and running at 4.14 GHz like it used to but still I think i kinda messed it up. That's why I was planning to get the X4 760K because it's not $90 bucks where as the A10-6700 is $170.

For more information about my "broken pin cpu", read this. http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-3232155/cpu-working-broke-pins.html

Reason why I think the cpu is messed up because when I booted up the system, one of my RAM stick was hardware reserved. That ram stick was in DIMM2, so I took it out from that and inserted in DIMM3, and it's not hardware reserved anymore. Is there a issue with my CPU or DIMM slot?

Oh, I see...you're actually pretty lucky it even still works. ^_^; They may all have been ground pins that were not totally useful.

And yeah, that happens sometimes with pre-builts or with bad quality paste, the cpu sticks to the cooler when removing.
I sometimes twist the cooler at little before removing it upwards so the paste stops sticking...not the best method maybe.

You can always check if it's running to spec using a benchmark software and comparing others with the same CPU/APU. Usually, it's either it works or not, the performance shouldn't be affected by loss of pins. Maybe some option somewhere got disabled though, but if it still boots, then...^^'

Thanks for you time and help dude! I will run through benchmarks now and see if it's the same. If it is. Then I will not buy another cpu. Cause I really like a10 6700 it's a good cpu. And Im going get the Gigabyte GTX 1050 Ti G1 Gaming graphics card soon. And turn this pc into a medium end gaming pc.

One thing that could go wrong is that the broken pins were related to the PCI-E lanes...If that is true then a new video card on the PCI-E might not work. But that's the worst case scenario, and can only be proven with a video card at this point.

If you have a spare video card lying around, I would test it and see if it works. If yes, then the 1050ti will work as well.

Nope I don't have another video card. If that does happen though, I will get the Athlon X4 760K because it's the same thing as A10 6700 with out a iGPU.
