Can a old Mb decrease gaming performance on a Gtx 1080?

Gtx 1080 with my i7 4790 is under performing along with the same brand 12gb ram. Wondering if its the mb as its very old with a brand new card

Na it probably a software or power issue. Try uninstall the drivers then use DDU to remove the old config. Restart and download the newest drivers and reinstall.

Unless you under clock your processor, which I doubt, The only limitation would be if you picked a board with PCI-Express 2.0 at the time, but really this only affects having higher resolutions or more monitors hooked up for multi-rendering(4k will be stressed a bit). Your processor at base clock will not bottleneck the performance of a 1080, and you should be fine with any 500W PSU (which most people have) if you are crazy enough to get an AMP EXTREME! card or something like that.
