Hi. I want to play some games (mainly racing games - Forza/Project Cars, that kind of thing). I have a i5 3570k CPU, z77 board, 8 gigs ram, and a 400w power supply. What graphics card can I upgrade to for around $100 or less?

Thanks

Base model GTX 1060 is 120W TDP and Nvidia recommends at least a 400W power supply. Quality of the power supply also comes in to play when meeting the minimum wattage.

RX 470/480 is a bit higher TDP and would likely require a 450W power supply, but if you have a quality unit you might be fine.

So I'd say a GTX 1060 (120W) is the highest you could go depending on your model/quality of power supply. Older GPUs tend to use more power and would require a better power supply.

Sorry @chemmajorp53. I wasn't trying to down vote your answer. I was trying to reply to it... How much power (wattage) can I use for a graphics card with my current psu?
I know nothing about graphics cards or how they stack up next to each other.

It depends on the power supply and if it actually puts out the rated voltage. If it's a no-name brand I wouldn't put anything that requires a PCIe power connector on it. If it's decent then you might be able to get a 150W card to work on it without any issues. Getting to close to the rated wattage causes your PSU to overheat, as it's rated for spikes to that amperage not continuous use in most cases.
