GPU fans spinning, but no light or detection in Windows, when using PCIE x1 riser in x8 or x16 slots

Hi,

I am trying to move GPUs out of a box using PCIE x1 to x4/x16 molex powered riser.

GPU fans spinning, but no light or detection in Windows, when using PCIE x1 riser in x8 or x16 slots.

GPU works fine in slots. Have tried multiple GPUs, and different machines.

Setup of two machines:

Dual Xeon E5-2670, Intel S2600CP2J MB, Corsair RM850x
Dell Precision T3400 Core2Quad, Dell MB?, Dell 350 PSU

Asus GTX970
Gigabyte GTX970
MSI GTX970
NVidia Quadro 4000
Asus GTX750Ti
Geoforce 210!

The 6/8 pins are in place on the GPU, SATA to Molex coonector tight, GPUs in tight (x16 slot on riser), x1 USB Slot riser connector in tight.

Always the same, the GPU's fans turn ,but no lights show, and no detection in Device manager in Windows.

It has the correct drivers installed.

Would people agree this is probably a faulty riser and or SATA to Molex cable; I have tried a different USB cable.

Thanks for any

The problem turned out to be either, a faulty riser - or I was using a USB cable over 0.5 meter; I cannot tell which as I returned, however the new one which uses a 0.5m USB cable work's just fine..
