Cheap PSU Performance Question

I'm upgrading my gaming system to a higher end i5 6600K/GTX 1070 setup and I'm trying to save as much money as possible. I'm wondering what sort of performance issues I can expect if I don't upgrade my PSU. Right now my PSU is a generic 500 watt unit that came with my current setup from Cyber Power Inc. If I upgrade my system, which looks like it will use about 375 watts, and keep my PSU will I see any performance issues? I'm not really familiar with how PSU's affect performance, if at all, so any info will be appreciated.

I agree. It's not worth the risk of destroying your new hardware just to save a few dollars by not upgrading the PSU.

I usually recommend the Seasonic M12ii 520W Bronze EVO Edition for builds like yours when on a budget.

Worst idea ever. Don't risk your expensive new build with a crap PSU.

Looking around this forum I'm starting to see that. Looks like I'll be spending an extra $70 or so on a better PSU.

Thanks! I just ordered that one. Looks good for the price.

Very good. Just disable C6/C7 states in the BIOS in order for sleep mode to function properly.

Lol, actually I changed my order to the one you suggested. I prefer gold rated PSU's and I don't want to hassle with BIOS to use sleep mode because I use it ALL the time. But thanks to everyone for squaring me away on my PSU dilemma. If it wasn't for the need to buy a new OS I'd probably just rebuild a new gaming rig from scratch but I already have a fairly solid storage setup as well a decent case.
