Upgrading MOBO and CPU, Have Questions

I'm upgrading my mobo and cpu and I'm wondering about formatting my drives. I have 2 drives in my system that I'm planning on keeping. One of my drives has my OS, all my drivers and pretty much all my general files. My second drive has only my gaming clients, such as Steam, GOG and UPlay, and all my actual game downloads. I know that I'll need to format the OS drive and reinstall my OS but will I also need to reformat my gaming drive? I'm thinking of just connecting my OS drive when I reinstall the OS after the upgrade and once everything is set up and running smooth I was going to reconnect my gaming drive. Is this a good idea? Will I run into any problems doing this? Especially when it comes to registry which I know nothing about? Would it be best to format all drives and just start from scratch since I'm doing what I consider a major upgrade by swapping out the CPU/MOBO?

Thanks for the info. While I hate having to reinstall at least 2TB of games I'm happy that I won't need to reformat the drive which would also require me to backup my photos externally. But I probably should do that anyways.
