Approximate Purchase Date: about a week or so.

Budget Range: hoping not to exceed $1500 (by too much).

System Usage from Most to Least Important: video editing, photo editing, gaming, DAW

Are you buying a monitor: No

Parts to Upgrade: this is a new beginning.

Do you need to buy OS: Yes

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Whatever is trustworthy and has decent prices!

Location: Boulder, CO, USA

Parts Preferences: Performance and futureproof-ness are my main concerns.

Overclocking: Maybe (Probably).

SLI or Crossfire: Maybe

Your Monitor Resolution: 3840 × 2160 (UHD) **I believe this is correct, but I know for certain it is NOT a higher res. e.g. full 4k. I can check tomorrow when I'm home again and let you know for sure.

Additional Comments: I am not sure if this is realistic for the price point I am aiming for, but I want a system that will handle editing much better/faster than the macbook I currently use. As far as the footage I work with, most is 1080p resolution, but it is important to me to be able to work with 4k resolutions as well. I mostly use Premiere, Lightroom, and Photoshop. I plan to learn stuff in as many of the Adobe CC apps as I can, if that changes anything GPU-wise. As far as the gaming goes, I hope move my exploits from my PS4 to this new system as much as I can. I would like to be able to play smaller games like Rocket League or Gang Beasts up to big-name titles like Battlefield or Overwatch. (Open to game suggestions, too, since I know I've been missing out while on console!)

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: It's time to grow up a little.

I appreciate any help you all can give me and apologies for the over-/under-explanations throughout my post!

Few words.
Put in the best LGA1151 socket CPU Intel currently offers. It's great for video editing and it fully supports OC (overclocking).
Went with the best AIO water cooler there is. Only the custom made water cooling loop is better than the Kraken.
Z-series MoBo for OC the CPU with 2 and 3-way SLI support and RAM OC up to the 3600 Mhz. (My current Skylake build uses the same MoBo.)
specs: https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/Z170A-GAMING-M5.html#hero-overview
Put in 16GB of RAM for your video editing that can be OC to the 3000 Mhz.
For OS, a 250GB SSD from SK Hynix and for storage, a reliable 3TB HDD from HGST (Hitachi).
GTX 1070 is the best GPU for SLI and will do well in 4K.
Went with a nice case from NZXT to match the theme of this build.
Your system's power plant comes directly from the best PSU OEM, Seasoinc. 80+ Gold efficiency and semi-modular to ease the installation.
And lastly, a Win 10 Home 64-bit.
