Game graphic and audio stuttering.

Hello all! I've been having a curious problem and was wondering if someone is familiar enough to help out.

So, my specs (all):

Windows 10 Education (only thing I could get free from my school) Anniversary.
Asus Maximus VIII Hero motherboard.
Geforce GTX 980 ti.
i7 6700 @4.00 GHz.
EVGA 1000P Supernova PSU.
CoolerMaster V8 GTS cpu cooling unit.
Corsair Obsidian Series 450D case.

So the issue is after maybe 35-55min of gaming smoothly, the game graphics and audio begin stuttering. It starts off slight at first, with barely noticeable microstutters, then the sound starts stuttering, and eventually the game is unplayable. This happens without fail, every time. But not with every game. For example, I can play Dark Souls 3 on max settings for 6 straight hours without even a slight hiccup. I can raid in Guild Wars for 4 hours on max settings without a problem. But if I play Skyrim (enhanced), or Evil Within, or Dying Light.....the problem manifests immediately.

Before anyone says it, it's not a heating problem. It was my first thought, too. So I closely monitored my temps. For example, for Dark Souls 3, the GPU hovers in the high 60s (C), while the CPU is in the mid 40s (C). No problems. For Skyrim, the GPU hangs in the mid 40s (C) and the CPU in the mid to low 30s (C). Problems galore. Cancelling the game out for 20min and relaunching, the problem begins again immediately. If I cancel out of the game and run a game that works normally, it continues to work normally. If I play a game until it begins to stutter, then exit the game and reinstall my graphics card, the problem fixes and I can play for an hour again before the problem starts up.

All my drivers are up to date, I've tried it, I promise. I feel like I've tried everything at this point. I'm feeling like this won't get fixed. Can it be a failing GPU? I ran a GPU stress test (FurMark) without a hiccup. It should be noted the games that DON'T screw up don't write saved data to documents. Could that somehow be it? Someone also recommended I run TimerTool set to 0.5ms and that could fix it. Worth a try? Also, I don't use an HDMI to connect my GPU to my monitor....can that somehow be a problem? Maybe I should remove Nvidia HD audio driver? Any tips, or advice, or possible solution would be great. I'm at a complete loss...

Thanks in advance,

- Sele

Hi, I'm sorry to say I don't have a solution to your problem, but you and I have very similar hardware (same MOBO, GPU, and processor) and I'm having similar issues as well. How many displays do you have hooked to your GPU?

I (try) to run two, and everything works normally at first. It then devolves into extreme lag, but it seems to be my entire system instead of just the game I'm running. I can solve the issue by reverting back to a single monitor. Do your issues occur only when gaming?

Yeah, and even then, only on some games. I can watch movies or play music all day long without a problem at all. It's perplexing. So for you once stuttering begins, it affects everything?
