When would it make sense to upgrade to a 4K or even 1440p monitor?
I have a $200 dollar budget for the monitor

Not really sure what you mean about "when", when you want to would be the answer. Can your hardware handle running games on that resolution if you have a gaming system?

I don't think there are any 4k monitors in your price range, cheapest on Newegg is an AOC model for $300.

There are several QNIX 1440 monitors for about $200.

It will probably be a year or more before those prices start to drop a bit.
