I made a USB Win7 installation disk a few years ago and have used it from time to time. More recently, I made a USB3 installation disk following instructions at http://codeabitwiser.com/2014/03/how-to-install-windows-7-with-only-usb-3-0-ports/ .
It was successful but I was surprised at the length of time it took to unmount the wim files at the end of the process. The boot.wim file took about 1.5 mins and the install.wim file took 31 minutes. Considering that the latter file is more than 20 times the former in size, it's logical that it took a proportionately longer time.
My computer - a Phenom II x4 955 with 4GB RAM - is no speed demon by today's standards. I did the preparations on a 1TB HDD. Are the times I mentioned reasonable?
