I built my PC about 2-3 years ago, last month the hard drive broke, I only just got round to installing a new one yesterday. After I installed I tried turning my PC on and nothing happened, no LEDs, no fan movement, no sound. Turns out the circuit breaker in my room went off (presumably when I turned my PC on), after resetting the circuit breaker today and trying it again I had different results to last time. This time the fans/case LEDS etc all worked, I thought it was fixed. I then noticed the HDD LED on my case wasn't on (remember I just installed a new HDD), and my PC wasn't displaying anything on my monitor (the monitor works , im using it now for another device). How can I diagnose what the problem is?

Specs below
Motherboard ASUS Z97K
GPU EVGA GTX 760 ACX
CPU i5 4670K
HDD 3.5" WD 2TB 5400 RPM
PSU CORSAIR CX600
RAM 2*4GB CORSAIR VENGEANCE

UPDATE 17:20 08/11/2016
Okay, after double checking the SATA connection and turning it on again it the HDD LED is flickering as it should do, the only problem now seems to be the display not working.

UPDATE 18:05 08/11/2016
After playing around a bit I found that when the old hard drive is installed the display works ONLY when plugged into GPU, does not work when plugged into motherboard.
Therefore the motherboard HDMI thingy (for lack of better description) is broken? A reasonable assumption right?
So the problem is how can I get any video output from my machine if it needs drivers installed to run off my GPU (and I cant see a thing to install them?) . If I have got this wrong tell me,

UPDATE 19:30 08/11/2016
I resolved this, turns out having a graphics card plugged in disables the motherboard display output so I simply removed my graphics card.

UPDATE 20:30 08/11/2016
NOT RESOLVED!, My PC works fine when the GPU isnt plugged in. Once I install the GPU I get a black screen! How can I resolve this.

Solution
Have you tried a different SATA Cable to connect the HDD?

Have you also tried resetting the CMOS (Take out the battery for a few minutes after disconnecting the PSU from the Wall Socket).

Have you tried booting it without the HDD installed?

Have you tried the HDD in another PC to ensure that it works, some can come damaged or not working.
