I’ve inherited a FX6300 and GeForce GTX 750 Ti and I’m looking to build something for my son. He’s not a mad gamer ( well not yet lol ) He will be mostly used for Homework and a bit of video/photo editing.

I have about £100 tops to spend on a motherboard and have narrowed it down to

MSI 970 Gaming or the ASUS 970 PRO GAMING/AURA as they seem to have some nice features, I may pop something like a 8350 or 8320E at a later date but I doubt I would be overclocking anything or maybe just mildly one day.

Is there any real differences between these two, or should I be looking at something completely different?

I’ll be grateful for any advice.

Both are well reviewed and have very similar features. Either would be fine for supporting a CPU all the way up to a 8350.

If you can get them at a similar price I would personally recommend going with the ASUS, as they are known to have better quality control on their motherboards.

I would probably go for the MSI 970 Gaming as it supports Crossfire. It also has more features and delivers better performance in gaming. And also if your son wants to upgrade later on he has space to do so (not encouraging him to do so or he will spend all your money). :) The motherboard it self look nice aswell with a nice sleek design. So if I were you I would go for the MSI 970 Gaming.
