Looks like I'm putting it into a machine with an unsupported chipset.

Are you trying to plug one monitor into the Motherboard and one into the Graphics Card?
If so, this will not work you have to plug both into the Graphics Card
Yes, I had a POS system on a Dell with a VGA monitor at the cash and a DVI monitor in the kitchen. I took the DVI card out of the Dell and put it in the HP machine. It doesn't seem to even recognize the card. Would a DsiplayPort to DVI do the trick?
It could be a broken port on the card, are you able to test a different card in the machine?
And also what Graphics card are you trying to use exactly?
If your motherboard has a PCI-e slot, the Chipset should support a PCI-e Graphics Card,
What exactly is the model of the Graphics Card?
And what is the model of the two computers that you are using?
I Sincerely apologize for the long delay I have been taking a rather large amount of time on holiday lately, especially with Christmas and New Years
