Whats the difference between SSD and HDD?

So i want to upgrade my storage, but i don't know the difference between SSD and HDD. which is faster? or better for a pc. Btw im a noob to this kinda stuff. and no i haven't googled anything cause i'd like simpler terms from fellow users.

SSD is superior to HDD in every way except for the Price most people buy smaller SSD with about 250GB to store Windows and few games and a 2ndary storage in an HDD for everything else.

In most simple terms:
SSD: what you store here will load faster such as operating system( WIndows)
HDD: will have to wait longer to load things such as an in game loading screen

SSDs (or Solid State Drives) are newer and faster technology. But, they are considerably more expensive. HHDs (or just hard disc drive) are older, and a bit slower, (and they have moving parts.) If you are trying to build on a budget, HHD is probably better. I hoped this helped. -PCth

SSD's while more expensive are much more responsive, they can make old computers feel like new for your everyday tasks, and even on new computer they feel and are much faster. SSD's also do not have moving part's making them much less prone to failure, consume less power and will help laptops with battery life.

ssd's have no moving parts and use magnetic storage and can pull data from any part of the ssd without speed decreace, hhd's work similar to a record player they have a spinning platter and a needle like device, it can pull data faster from parts of the drive than others, and it is important to defrag to keep the data optimized.


hdd use much more power and give off more heat.



ssd's have better read write speeds


hdd's are 3.5" and ssd's are 2.5"
