Old components vs better components

Should I get an old part that is not as powerful, or a new part with less power?
I'm deciding between the i7 6700k or the Kaby Lake i5.
Im looking for the longest relevance and not bottleneck my performance on PC games.

better off going with the newer cpu. with the newer mb and cpu you can at a latter date put in a faster cpu if needed. right now going from skylake to the newer 200 chipset your not going to see much of speed bump.

unless Intel pull some sort of wild crap, the skylake core i7 will be better than the newer core i5 for the most part even though it's older. that's what i would go for.

An faster part will be better no matter the age, as long as it's a new part. But you may run into issues in the long term with new video card and RAM compatibility and motherboards.
