Slave router LAN ports

Hi,

Trying to figure out a networking puzzle at home and not able to find a part of the answer. I have a home network where all of my wired devices are currently on the second floor (PC, vg consoles), but I wanted to add a device to a room on the first floor and also have it hardwired.

I was reading that I could add a second wireless router and bridge it to the upstairs wireless router and I think I understand that part, but my question is, can the master router (now downstairs) then handle the LAN ports on the slave router to still serve the upstairs devices (including NAT for the console), or does the upstairs router simply become a wifi extender?

My hope is that in this scheme, I have everything wired that I need, plus the extra wifi coverage. There are probably better ways to do this, but I only really have conduit for the single run upstairs without a lot of hassle. I do have a drawing if that helps.

Thanks,
J

All ports on both routers are accessible, just like a switch.

Thanks for the quick reply.

In that scenario, do the other three LAN ports on the second router then act as an unmanaged switch would, or are they useless? I dont get great wifi coverage downstairs, so I was thinking I could benefit from the second access point.
