Will Samsung MZ-V5P256BW 950 PRO 256GB NVMe M.2 PCI-Express 3.0 x4 Solid State Drive work with MSI 970a g46 motherboard

Solution

As @Boogieman_WD suggested you could run that SSD with a PCIe to M.2 expansion/adapter card, they are about $17 dollars on Newegg at the moment, here's its link

or you could opt for the Plextor M8Pe, its the cheapest PCIe available for 256GB, the minimum capacity that I would recommend for a boot drive

Sorry for delayed...

Thanks for the quick response! Could you possibly suggest an affordable PCIe ssd that will work with my motherboard?

Hi Vervlaks.

Actually, @Atomic_Subwave is both correct and not at the same time. What he said is true, however you might be able to run a NVMe SSD on that mobo via a PCIe expansion card with an M.2 port. However, you should have enough lanes (not taken by a GPU or a CPU) for that. Other than that, it would be best, to get in touch with the motherboard manufacturer's customer support, to see if the mobo supports NVMe at all and if it does, you should ask if you'd be able to boot from that drive, as there's not much use of a NVMe SSD as a secondary storage drive.

Hope that helps.
