I am planning to build a pc over christmas and i have chosen the mastercase maker 5 which comes with 2 front intake fans and a rear exaust fan and i'm planning to add a 280mm radiator in the top but i'm not sure which direction to configure all of the fans.

Coolest air over the radiator, if possible. If you have very good case airflow, the radiator can be top or back mounted (if there is room) and the air can be pushed or pulled out.

Are you cooling CPU and GPU? CPU only? What will be the rest of the loop components?

General rule of thumb is more intake than exhaust. If you have it the other way round you'll create negative pressure, suck dust in etc etc. I've done a lot of testing and research over the last couple of weeks, and while many people seem to like having the H110/115 as an exhaust, it hardly effects the temps either way. If you get a good fan with a high CFM as exhaust, that's all you'll really need. My 115 is front mounted with Noctua iPPC 2000 fans, with a Cougar 140mm pulling cool air in from below and another iPPC as exhaust and my case temps are lovely.

Have a look at this video from Linus, it explains and shows it better than I can explain it - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9pykvwv5vcY

Good luck with your festive build!

  • ■ Fast moving air looses calorie faster than still air, each fan has arrow mark which point at blown direction, master case front fans must be pointing upward to move warm air generated by graphic card open air cooler.
    ■ It's a different story when top 280 mm radiator for CPU inhaling chilling (10 to 5 C) room air, think of dipping ice cream to a cup of hot tea.
    ■ I agree with sullen on blow "job" is better than "sucky long time", try to cool hot tea by sucking hot air.
    ■ With water cooled CPU the next heat source would be graphic card(s) - VRM (OC) - sum of HDD+PSU, this make front intake fans be more suitable with any graphic card present.
