Hi,

If like to build a multi user workstation. I happen to have two HSW, I5-4440, 3.1ghz processors. Are there motherboards that I can use both on and give me 8 cores of processing power using these processors?

Solution
only Xeons and workstation chips work dual CPU. i5 unfortunately does not fit that need. you could sell those i5s and get xeons....

I see... hmmmm.

How about daisy chaining the two comps together? As well I have a third older dual core 3.? GHz comp that could act as a server, which I think you need to daisy chain comps together.

Wouldn't that give me the combined power of both or even all three comps acting as one for rendering? Can't I utilize the processing power as well that way?

From what I've read, I'm not going to see any gains in the processing power going cluster or any other method. Best I can hope for is to use them daisy chained as render nodes.

Btw, my initial question should have stated " multi use" not multi user. I'm looking to create the best I can from these three comps, (if worth while), for multi media type creation. Music, 3D modeling, animation, A/V editing and Special FX.

I have nothing now... Except these stock Dell comps. Memory costs, looking last night, to bring just two up to 32gig is high at around $400 for DDR3L... Two GPU's... One PSU as I have a new one already... I don't know.

Any thoughts, or should I just trash them and look for something better suited?

Cat 5 I suppose.. via net cards. I don't have fiber optic cards. Plenty of NICs.
As mentioned, probably just as render nodes given that's about all I can do with them.
