So i installed intel usb 3.0 drivers from the intel driver updater software and my keyboard+mouse stopped working instantly. I rebooted and they still won't work.

I've tried all of the ports, including USB 2.0 ports, they don't work, also not in safe mode, tried few different mouses and nothing works. Keyboard and mouse work in bios though.

I use windows 7 64bit
My motherboard is Gigabyte GA-Z170X-Gaming 5

How can I revert the drivers from bios or some other way when my mouse and keyboard aren't working???

Solution

I had the same exact problem. I used Intel's update utility of USB 3.0 v4.0 drivers to v5.0.and during update it deletes the old drivers but hung on installation of v 5.0 drivers thus rendering the computer to a $2500 doorstop. What most people don't understand is that when this happens there is no way to...
Welcome to the TH Community, @Markus_765!

I'd recommend you go to your motherboard manufacturer's official website and find your model there. Under Support & Downloads, you should be able to see all the available drivers & utilities that are specific for your installed Windows OS version. I'd suggest you try reinstalling the USB 3.0 Hub controller driver from there and see what happens then. What about attempting to connect other USB devices besides mice and keyboards, how do they get recognized by the system? You could also try to restore the system to a previous date in time when these changes had not been made yet.

Hope this helps you.

How can I restore the system without mouse/keyboard in windows? I tried the option of reverting to previous good configuration in advanced boot menu, but that didn't help, as my windows is booting properly.

How can I install the HUB 3.0 controller drivers when I cant use mouse/keyboard.

External HDD has light, which mouse/keyboard doesn't have, no idea if it's working though.

Also I am able to use keyboard + mouse in bios.

If you are able to use the keyboard + mouse in the BIOS, then it sounds like the issue is most probably software-related (drivers).
Well, another alternative for you would be to re-install the OS from scratch if all the struggle of a clean install doesn't bother you. Another thing you could try is using a PS/2-compatible keyboard + mouse (or a USB-to-PS/2 converter) and check if you would be able to use them in Windows. You need that until you will be able to reinstall the USB controller drivers. However, I'd also suggest you re-install the Chipset drivers, since it controls the USB ports.
Another thing that could potentially help is resetting BIOS.

Hope this works. Keep me posted.

THIS THIS THIS! Actually tried it before readong your answer.

I'm baffled that when I was googling the problem, A TON of people had experienced the same problem, but this wasn't mentioned even once IIRC.

What I did was use ps/2 mouse to windows.
Uninstall all USB drivers etc
Install previous versions that I luckily had already on my PC.

The thing also somehow corrupted (I think?)my internet drivers and I had to do the same for them.

Didn't try bios reboot, but was thinking of that aswell.

Thanks for the help.

What most people don't understand is that when this happens there is no way to give the computer any input commands. I tried everything I could think of, even using a USB to PS2 adapter which also didn't work. The mouse and keyboard would only work before loading of windows. Safe mode, entering BIOS, using Windows disk was all I could get to but once there you need an input to start them. I was only able to use those devices in the BIOS. Luckily after a couple of days of consultation with the technical staff at Digital Storm we happened upon a possible fix and luckily it worked.

1. Removed the SSD containing the Win 7 Professional OS
2. Installed the SSD on another computer
3. In the BIOS changed the boot order of that computer to the SSD as first drive
4. After booting the computer and entering Windows, did a system restore on only the SSD.
5. Removed the the SSD from that computer and re installed it on the original computer.
6. Booted the computer and OS was repaired.

I blame Intel for this poor way of updating USB drivers that is fraught with catastrophic dangers. Shame on them!
